How does the world perceive our faith? Throughout our study of Romans, we've referred to Romans 12 as "Paul's commentary" on Jesus' teaching of the Sermon on the Mount. He is challenging believers to consider how they live out the truth of their faith because we are to be giving thought to what is right before all humanity. We must ask ourselves if our behavior is peaceful, genuine, gentle, and inviting the world around us to know Jesus. What does it look like to be a people of peace? This week, we encourage you to pause and turn to Him so that His voice will transform us into gentle rightness capable of bringing all humanity to repentance.

The Evidence of Faith: Romans 12:14-19

Jan 29, 2023

As disciples of Jesus, we are called to behave generously in all aspects of life, both within and outside the church's walls. Paul urges us to contribute to the needs of the saints and serve those around us, as Jesus modeled that by saying, "I came to serve and not be served." Pastor Greg Sanders provides tools and practical applications of how to honor people and remain in a generous spirit when we are inevitably faced with conflict and cursing in our lives: to highlight the good in everyone and bring that before the Lord, refusing to let anger, resentment, or bitterness set in. Our challenge is to continually mirror the example left by Jesus and remain willing to be hospitable in the midst of conflict. It ultimately reflects what we believe about God's character and heart towards us.

THE EVIDENCE OF FAITH: ROMANS 12:13-14

Jan 22, 2023

As followers of Jesus, we are called to make choices consistent with the King. Having a Kingdom perspective requires choosing joy over fear, calm over chaos, and determining what influences you. We must have a hatred for causing pain and take delight in putting others first. We are instructed not to fake our love for others; we must genuinely love them. We are challenged to consider how we respond to fear and proactively allow God’s voice to influence our perspective of circumstances. As you listen to this message, find the tools and encouragement to learn the language of God’s voice and live with a Kingdom perspective.

The Evidence of Faith: Romans 12:9-21 Part 2

In Romans 12, Paul is challenging fakeness. He is calling us to live an authentic life and trust in the character of who God is. Trusting in His character will produce gladness for all God plans for you as you allow Heaven to influence your mindset. We must get into the habit of choosing to be a resource to those around us and let our lifestyle and attitude fixed toward expanding the Kingdom.

God is inviting you to join in the New Year with Him. Paul states a standard of attitudes in Romans 12:12 that we are to hold as people of God. As we launch into 2023, we must choose joy over fear, calmness in the midst of chaos, and give our constant attention to the Lord. We are invited to sit with the Lord and choose to participate in the attitudes that mark a Christian and that ultimately drive our lives.

Are you putting on real love? It won't happen if you wait for this to come out of you. It is a choice, and it is available to us because of Christ. The worst parts of us will find ways to come out if we don’t sacrifice all of ourselves to Jesus. We need Him, and we cannot love others around us without Him. We must never give ourselves a reason to “take our foot off the gas,” so to speak, in this call to love. How is your love? How are you doing in love?

You have a King who is inviting you to truly love others. In Romans 12, Paul speaks about how we are unable to truly love others if we haven’t sanctified our minds and our bodies to Christ. His statement is to let our love be real, authentic, and biblical. As we follow Christ, we see His model of love that never fakes or resists stepping into love for others. This is the model we are called to follow and mirror: not pretending our love or choosing not to love altogether. Listen along as we strive not just to pretend we love others but actually love them.

Each of us has a unique function in the Body of Christ. Romans 12 highlights how important it is to explore what gifts He has given us and how we can function well in them. We walk in our giftings to serve not only our church but our community and city as a whole. As the Body, we need all parts to work correctly, and when we focus on the whole, everything points to Jesus.

God's will for our lives is fully knowable but not easily accessible. It requires submission to His process. Our bodies are to be a living sacrifice for God and His glory. We must lay down what we want for what He wants for us. We have a choice to allow God to shape us and not allow it to be the world around us. Unless we create the space for Him to transform our minds and thinking, we risk missing His will and what He is doing in our lives.

In Paul’s letter to the Romans, he implores members to use their gifts accordingly. As Christians, we are called to live a life of service and giving generously, and Pastor Daniel Sokolowski dives into what it looks like to apply this at Vintage City Church as a church family. When we willingly, cheerfully, and diligently step into God’s calling to give and serve, we can trust that God is faithful.

The Evidence of Faith: Romans 12:1-21

In the continuation of our Evidence of Faith Series, David Mitchell opens up Romans 12. As followers of Jesus, Paul pleads for us to offer our bodies in true and proper worship as living sacrifices for His Kingdom. Our bodies are temples, a place of worship in view of God's mercy. When we allow our minds and bodies to be transformed by the word & spirit of God, we can fully walk into the very callings in which He calls us.
